Night Owl Char/Shou Sugi Ban

Charred Tamarack from Currier Forest Products

Tamarack (Larix laricina) is the most exotic wood species we harvest from the Northern Forest. To make it more exotic still, we char the wood by exposing it to an open flame, making for a truly dramatic design statement.

Charred wood, also known by the Japanese name Shou Sugi Ban, accentuates the character and rawness of grain while helping to weatherproof the wood and deter insects. With a janka hardness of 590, tamarack can take the heat for a deep burn resulting in even greater pest, fire and rot resistance.

Night Owl Char products are sealed on both sides with Vermont Natural Coatings industrial grade sealer for clean handling and installation.

Currier Forest Products offers exterior lap siding and interior cladding in three surface grades, perfect for that special accent wall, “man cave” or “she shed.”
